Louise Hassen started The Children’s Garden Company because she has a deep-rooted passion for gardening and has discovered a wonderful way to share it with children.
Born and raised in England and the Cape Provence of South Africa, Louise grew up in the garden. Both her parents and grandparents were avid gardeners and she, with her mother’s help, planted her first garden when she was four years old.
After working in the wine business for 15 years, Louise returned to her passion and pursued a Certificate in Garden Design at UC Berkeley Extension, which she completed in 2002. She then embarked on her garden design career. In order to teach children how to grow fruits and vegetables, Louise has been trained in the Grow Biointensive™ method of sustainable mini-farming. In 2008 Louise became a licensed landscape contractor. Currently, she serves as a children’s docent at the San Francisco Botanical Garden and is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD). When she’s not busy designing gardens for her young clients or leading garden tours for children, she can be found in her own garden in San Anselmo, California.
